class="meta-nav">→

Netbooks

Mobile computers have become a necessity these days but they come at a great cost. Well, if you are searching for some cheaper options then there are lots of varieties for you to lay your hand on them. Earlier the netbooks cost an average of around $499. But now days the netbooks are available in affordable prices like $300 as well. This has made the netbooks available for the common man. The main credit for the $300 netbooks can be given to companies like Acer which has launched new Aspire one AOD250 in this range. Also the dell’s mini 10v falls in the same range.

Main features

The main features that come in $300 netbooks include-

1. The dell mini 10v, the Acer aspire one AOD250 and also the HP mini 115NR- all have Intel atom N270 (1.6 GHz) CPU.

2. When it comes to hard drive, the dell mini 10v has 120 GB (5600 rpm) hard drive, the Acer aspire one AOD250 has 160 GB (5600 rpm) hard drive whereas the HP mini 1115NR has 80 GB (4200 rpm) hard drive. So the Acer product sores above all in case of hard drive.

3. All three of them have 1 GB RAM and windows XP OS with 10.1 inch screen.

4. However the battery life of HP mini 115NR (150 minutes) counts above the battery life of Acer aspire one AOD250 (110 minutes).

5. Also there are some differences like Acer lacks Bluetooth while dell mini 10v and HP mini 115NR have Bluetooth facility.

The design of netbooks

There are differences in the design, feel and look of netbooks. There is a thin plastic chassis; a small touchpad and a bit crammed keyboard in Acer aspire one AOD250. Where as both HP mini 115NR and dell’s have larger keyboards.

Apple seems quite recession-proof in the days when many big players are looking for some ray of hope in the worldwide economic gloom.

The company has just announced reported its second quarter financial results as the best non-holiday quarter in the history of the company. Apple’s different products did quite well especially the iPod, iPhone and Apple iTunes store, but they had to witness a considerable drop in their Mac desktop and laptop sales. However, the company looks quite sarcastic towards new netbooks even now.

In second quarter earning conference, the company’s CEO Timothy D. Cook pointed some shots on small netbooks, saying:

We are not interested in them, as they offer nothing good except junky hardware, little screens, cramped keyboards and horrible software and we are not going to put all these things in our Mac.

One can do almost all the things with our iPhone or iPod touch what a netbook seems to offer. We will do it if we are able to produce a really innovative product that could offer all in actual that most of the current netbook makers associate with their products.

Apple guys may have their heads in the sand, or they want to develop such a thing secretly.

→

With the claims of providing simpler choices to their customers, Microsoft has just announced its different versions of Windows 7 officially.

Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Home Premium are the two main versions about which the Software maker looks quite keen to talk about, but you shouldn’t think that only few versions are out there, as there are 5 in UK and 6 worldwide. Aside from that there are some nice implications for netbooks as well.

The main changes, which have been made on partners and customers feedback, are that every high-end version of the operating system will get all those features that exist in lower end versions. For instance, you will find all those features of Windows 7 professionals that have been made available in Windows 7 Home Premium.

It wasn’t so in Windows Vista, as Media Center was available in Home Premium, but not in Vista Business.

Though Microsoft looks quite eager to convince us that you can simply choose from Professional and Home Premium, lots of other versions are available as well. Now Home Basic version has replaced Starter Edition in the emerging markets. Starter Edition used to available in such locations traditionally.

However, Starter will be made available quite widely, but it’s still limited to only three open applications and this limitation would cause poor performance of the Windows on some netbook.
<div
