Today the SIM2 Solar Series 47-inch LCD has been launched. It has been showed off in Integrated Systems Europe show 2009 by Dolby and SIM2.
The new LCD solar screen is brighter and has a greater contrast comparing to its previous version and those flat screens available at present. It delivers brightness of over 4000 cd/m2 from 2306 LED back lights. Coming with 16-bit processing, it has 95 % uniform luminosity across the panel.
It comes with contrasts indeed in a large infinite ratio and they are supposed to be the nearest to real world. It means that LCD will also be an enjoyable stuff. Apart from its technical changes, it is same on the face; the wide panel is still there which is somewhat annoying.
The Dolby vision has after all improved now and the LED back light is better too. To manage the LEDs behind the LCD panel, the Dolby Vision is featured with an algorithm. In connection with the image on display, each LED is separately controlled.
Back light can be selectively turned off in certain scenes. Dolby Vision enhances the impact of the black area in the scenes by turning them real black using its infinite contrast ratio feature.
No specifications regarding high speed action has been given. It is not known whether the solar series will be able to run such action scenes or not as efficiently as the others. Also, if it will, then what will be the features that will be provided in this regard is also not known.
