With the launch of Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung has created huge ripples in the smartphone market. Android based Samsung Galaxy S has already started giving other smartphone makers sleepless night and is posing a stiff competition to other smartphones, particularly iPhone4 of Apple.

Of late, there have been talks about smartphones launched by Samsung because of their super AMOLED screen displays and spectacular features.

Samsung has done a great job as far as the hardware of the phone is concerned. Though the phone may look like iPhone 3GS, but the large vibrant screen of the phone makes it look mesmerizing. The 4″ super AMOLED capacitive touch screen is capable of displaying 16M colors of 480×800 pixels. The display of the phone comes with a multi-touch input method with an accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate coupled with touch sensitive control buttons.

There is a proximity sensor for auto turn-off and phone feels great while you hold it in hand. The touch screen is responsive enough and on the front of the phone you will find two touch sensitive flat buttons along with a single mechanical home screen button which gives it a sleek look. The phone is quite light on your pocket weighing just 119 grams.

If you feel that the screen of Samsung Galaxy S being super AMOLED is invisible during bright sunlight, then wait. The screen is quite visible during bright sunlight and just like other AMOLED screens, colors displayed are bright. Though the display resolution is not as sharp as that of an iPhone 4, yet it is quite impressive.

The phone comes with Samsung Touch Wiz 3.0 user interface (UI) which permits you seven home screens. Touch Wiz 3.0 allows you to delete, reorganize and add the home screens and one of the most important aspect of the Touch Wiz UI is its widget interface. Some of the important widgets are weather clock, buddy widget, daily briefing etc.

The technical specs of the phone give it a great edge over its counterpart. The phone is powered by ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor and uses the Android 2.1 OS which can be upgraded to 2.2. The phone measures 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9 mm and allows you to store practically unlimited number of entries thanks to its massive storage capacity.

Samsung Galaxy S comes with an internal memory capacity of 8GB which can be increased to a staggering 32 GB with the help of a micro SD card. The massive memory storage is handy if you wish to store a large number of videos, images, music etc. The phone also comes with PowerVR graphics processor, which is one of the most powerful graphics processor to be used in an Android phone.

Connectivity and Multimedia is seamless with the Samsung Galaxy S. The 1GHz processor, allows speedy net surfing, with the phone supporting GPRS Class 12 (4+1/3+2/2+3/1+4 slots), EDGE (Class 12), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 2G (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 ) and 3G (HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100 ). There is also support for Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP profile.

For business corporate, the phone is capable of merging e-mail and calendar accounts and the phone is equipped with Swype feature which allows you to drag your finger around the keyboard to find words rather than typing individual letters. The phone is equipped with an FM radio along with RDS for music lovers and the 3.5 mm audio jack connector further enhances your music experience. The phone can also be used as a remote control if you possess a Samsung TV.

Samsung Galaxy S Camera

Galaxy S is equipped with a 5 mega-pixel camera that lets you click sharp images. The camera is equipped with Geo-tagging, touch focus and smile detection facilities. However, it lacks flash support so if you are clicking images in dim light then, then the images will not be so sharp. The phone also lets you record video at 30fps.

Samsung Galaxy S Battery

The phone is equipped with a standard Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery which offers a talk time of around 13 hours when the phone is operated on 2G and up to 6 hours when operated on 3G. If you operate the phone on 2G then standby talk time is up to 750 hours while on 3G it is 576 hours.

To woo consumers Samsung has launched a host of accessories and cases for Galaxy S. The accessories include a charger, a secondary battery, a video streaming box and several cases for carrying the phone.

In the US, the phone is available for around $500 while in the UK it is priced at £350 (approx). The price of the phone in India is approximately INR 28,000.
