HTC Desire HD Review

Released in 2010, the HTC Desire HD is a step forward from the HTC HD2 and HTC Evo, with many features to look forward to. While it carries on the 4.3″ screen seen in earlier models, it is also significantly different from them.

HTC Desire Display

With a broad display, Dolby Mobile and SRS virtual surround sound, the HTC Desire HD (sized at 68x123x11.8mm), seeks to do justice to the user’s experience with the phone. Reading and browsing certainly becomes easy on a phone of this size. Though it is not as slim as the iPhone 4 or Galaxy S, it still has a very pocketable size. The phone has a unique aluminum unibody construction that makes the device stronger and more durable.

HTC Desire Display Limitations

However, the side-mounted battery cover is tough to operate and the lid over the SIM and memory card does not fit well into the aluminum cover. Also, the volume button of the phone is placed on the left side and is really difficult to navigate. This is a basic technological defect that should really have been looked into.

HTC Desire Specifications

This phone has a 1Ghz QSD8255 chip (with Adreno 205 graphics) and is powered by the Android 2.2 Froyo, providing a good package. However, the 1230mAh battery acts as a dampener, giving the phone only about a day’s usage before the battery runs out.

HTC Desire Features

The Sense UI provides new widgets and a host of home screens to choose from. One can edit ringtones, choose from new scenes on offer or even download new ones, personalizing the phone. The interface of the phone is good, with the ability to tackle many accounts and the notification bar comes in view, simply by moving the finger downwards from the top of the screen. The HTC Desire HD also has a very fast booting system, provided the device is off and the battery has not been removed.
The phone browser stands out for its ability to load pages quickly and scrolling, pinch-to-zoom and portrait-landscape transitions have been perfected in the HTC Desire HD. Also, the OS doesn’t stop anything in progress (like a gaming session) so that one can return to it at a later stage.

HTC Desire Camera

This phone boasts of an 8MP camera with a dual LED flash, able to take pictures of admirable quality, with some practice and proper availability of light. However, the absence of a dedicated camera key is a slight setback and since there is no proper lens cover the camera is susceptible to damage.

Though the HTC Desire HD has some manufacturing defects and a poor battery life, there is no doubt that it holds some new and interesting features to users that cannot be ignored. It seems that these minor flaws may be overlooked if one is impressed by Froyo, Sense features and a large screen display.
