Ranking Based on Content Evaluation – The Result of Dramatic Changes in Google’s Search Algorithms

In order to eliminate ‘content farms’ that simply copy content or publish low quality content, Google announced dramatic changes to its search algorithms at the end of January of 2011. Google’s new content spam detection and prevention techniques negatively affected the ranking of many websites.

Many webmasters claimed that their websites suffered collateral damage because of the content spam prevention. They affirmed that their websites’ content was original and helpful, but their traffic suddenly dropped around 40 – 60% because Google’s system was making false conclusions. However, Matt Cutts, Google’s principal engineer, states that “Google’s search quality is better than it has ever been in terms of relevance, freshness and comprehensiveness”. Those who were complaining about the new evaluation metrics were simply mixing unique content with duplicated content. Google advised these website owners to separate their high-quality content from the auto-generated part, blocking it from being crawled and indexed.

Google has always paid close attention to its search quality and with the start of this new year Google wanted to have a better look at their search quality. Hence, Google decided to evaluate their search quality and they have found that their search quality has become better than what it was in the last decade. Rebuilding L’Aquila on Google SketchUp
