However, the screen is resistive which means that scrolling and tapping processes are a lot less intuitive. The other android phones allow a lot more intuitive navigation. It is perhaps the first android phone to be built this way. Thus it is path breaking in its own small way. However, we shall also expect that the reduction in features and hardware should also be reflected in the final price of the phone.

When the phone is in the folded form, the features available are pretty limited. It has a menu, back and end buttons only when the keyboard is folded away. The interface is also a mixture between LG’s s class and the vanilla android system. The menu is arranged such that the icons are all grouped together unlike the usual grouping where everything comes in one massive list. S class options are the same. The same is employed here as well. It is on the front home screen. You will be able to access a spinning cube instead of scrolling left, right, up and down. This is slightly cumbersome for those not accustomed to it.

The phone is also net savvy. It allows easy access to facebook and twitter. You can do all the social networking right from your cell phone. Sending messages is much easier on the new LG android phone. The media is also very user friendly and has loads of features to look out for. The layout for the media is also same as that in Motorola DEXT phones. In fact the similarity is too uncanny to ignore.

Although the new phone may seem a bit complicated, the interface is very sassy. It does not have that geeky feel that was an integral part of all the previous android phones. The phone has received mixed reactions. Like all new phones, this will also take time to carve out its own niche. However, the features definitely seem to impress.

The LG enV Touch design

The Voyager VX10000 was introduced to the market when the concept of touchscreens was still fairly new in the market and the LG enV Touch seems to have been launched at a time when there are numerous phones that use the touchscreen technology. This does not overshadow the unique design that the LG enV Touch has. It has a length of 4.52 inches, width of 2.16 inches and is about 0.66 inches thick. This makes it much smaller compared to the Voyager VX10000. Its look is very elegant and sleek and most people will find some similarity with the LG Versa and the LG Dare models in terms of the look.

The LG enV Touch touch-screen display dominates the front of the phone and the only other visible features at the front are three keys on the lower part. These keys include the End/power key, the Send key and the Clear key. The display is striking and measures about three inches and can support more than one million colors making it not just bright but also vibrant and sharp.

The camera key, screen lock key and the volume adjuster are located on the left side of the phone. The memory card slot and headset jack are on the right while the charger jack is at the bottom. The LG enV Touch has a 3.2 megapixel camera and flash at the back. The speakers are found on both sides of the phone. The QWERTY keyboard is very simple to use and can be customized to suit your preferences.

Features available

The phonebook can hold more than a thousand entries allowing each entry to have up to 5 numbers, one street address and 2 email addresses. The entries can be organized into groups with an option for photos to use for caller ID. The phone has a speakerphone, MMS, voice messaging, world clock, and a drawing pad that can be used with the touch-screen. Users will also appreciate the voice command dialing option on the LG enV Touch and the USB mass storage.

The Bluetooth on the LG enV Touch supports basic imaging, file transfer, dial-up networking, basic printing, stereo and hands-free. The LG enV Touch can also be used as a modem for your computer or laptop. The document viewer will allow you to read any Microsoft Office documents that are in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Adobe Acrobat. Instant messaging on Aim, Yahoo or Windows live is also available on this phone. The LG enV Touch also comes with navigator support, GPS, email, HTML web browser and EV-DO Rev. The one disappointment is the lack of a Wi-Fi on the LG enV Touch.

This 3D LCD panel is 23” of size. According to LG, this LCD is twice as bright as other 3D LCD displays. A big claim, isn’t it? Well, we shall surely see how far LG proves true in its claim. According to LG’s website, “The 3D panel employs LG Display’s proprietary technology to realize Full HD images with twice the brightness of conventional 3D LCD panels. The product boasts the world’s highest brightness among 3D displays.”

How has LG attained this high level of brightness? Answer to this lies in the technique the company has used. Elements that generate stereoscopic or 3D images are built into the LCD panel instead of the typical layers system that stays on top of the picture to give it a three dimensional look, reducing brightness resultantly. To our delight, the glasses that would be used with this 3D LCD panel are low priced polarized glasses. This will cut down the total expanses. Usually, much costlier and high spec glasses are needed for using with 3D panels.

According to LG Display’s CTO and Executive Vice-President In-Jae Chung, “LG Display will step up development of 3D technologies and products to provide customers and consumers with differentiated value.” This wonderful product will be displayed in Society for Information Displays (SID) 2009 in San Antonio, Texas U.S.A.

Intel’s present Atom processor has been codenamed as Moorestown, “Intel and LG have a common goal and this is to introduce a new and rich internet experience in various cell phone devices with the functionality of the present day high-end smartphones,”

Ashok Kumar, who is an analyst at Collins Stewart, says in this connection: “The basic factor to get Intel chips which will run on almost all well-known PC software is to reduce power consumption even lesser than the Atom chip which is being used in many Netbooks nowadays.”

“This will be directly housed in a smartphone,” says Kumar. Many high-end laptops are available with Intel mobile processors that have 25 to 35watts thermal envelope.”

However, the question rises whether Moorestown will be able to get silicon energy thrift for sometime. We have to see mobile phone suppliers like Texas Instruments and Qualcomm. It has been recently disclosed by Toshiba that it’s using Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm in its coming cell phone version.
