Blackberry Bold 9780 Review

The Blackberry Bold 9780 is an offering from RIM that is sure to get customers excited. For one, it makes use of the Blackberry 6 operating system and applications are seen running faster than ever on this phone. Presented in both black and white, the 9780 is a follow up from the 9700 model and though there are some common features, the phone ensures a new bold experience.

Blackberry Bold Design and Quality

The Blackberry Bold 9780 does not really depart from the earlier Bold 9700 look, apart from the black rim which replaces the chrome lining of the earlier model. It does have a glossy exterior and is of the right size (14x60x109mm) to fit comfortably in the hand. The phone quality is excellent, with no protruding parts of loose joints. While the right side houses the volume rocker and convenience key, the left side contains a microUSB port and headphone jack. Mute and lock buttons are located at the top of this mobile phone.

Blackberry Bold Specifications

It is heartening to note that the phone RAM has been doubled from 256 MB (of 9700) to 512 MB. This phone is built with a 624 MHz processor, just like the 9700 model.

Blackberry Bold Features

Blackberry Bold 9780 runs on OS 6 providing a better interface, with improved multimedia facilities. Messaging on this device comes with a threaded view.

By default the phone menu bar shows six apps onscreen. Apart from these, there is also the option ‘All’ mentioned on top of the menu bar, which if scrolled onto shows the full list of applications. However, this array is limited restricting user satisfaction. A little bit of trackpad control is necessary here to select the right icon.

One of the nicest offerings of the Blackberry Bold 9780 is the universal search option that gets activated as soon as one starts typing on the keyboard and even involves Google, YouTube and BlackBerry App World in its ambit.

This phone also comes with a new web browser that may not be as good as an iPhone or Android one but is still much quicker from earlier Blackberry models and scrolling is made easier. Facebook, Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger and Twitter can all be accessed easily. Users can also navigate smoothly between as many as ten email accounts.

Camera

The Blackberry Bold 9780 comes equipped with a 5 MP camera as opposed to the 3.2 MP camera found in 9700. The camera quality is very good but the same cannot be said for the video camera.

Keyboard

The Bold 9780 does not have a touchscreen. Therefore things are controlled by the keypad which has a good firm feel, making the user experience a lot smoother than it is on the Curve series.

Battery

The Blackberry Bold 9780 ought to handle about two days of moderate usage before it needs to be charged again. It has a talktime of 6 hours and a standby time of about 22 days, a little more than what was found in the 9700 model.

Blackberry Bold 9780 is definitely an improvement from the Bold 9700 with additional memory and an upgraded operating system that offers more. Users who are keen on this device can certainly give it a serious consideration.
