Blackberry 8830 looks similar to the 8800 handset while the silver metallic body reminds one of the Curve phones. Though this smartphone looks bigger compared to other devices, it has a sleek appearance. The display that dominates the top of the Blackberry 8830 consists of a 2.5″ color screen. Below this is the trackball navigator surrounded by the Talk, End, Menu and Escape keys. The keys have backlighting and the screen is light sensing, adjusting display brightness depending on surrounding light. While the right side of the Blackberry 8830 contains the volume rocker, the left side contains the 2.5mm headset jack, USB port and convenience key. Power and mute/music player/standby buttons are found at the top of the smartphone. Overall, this device may be a bit large but has a sturdy feel.

The Blackberry Curve 8350i on Nextel comes with Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS, though it does not support 3G. The Nextel Direct Connect option on this phone is also an attractive one for users. But does this device impress or does it fall short of doing so? Here’s taking a closer look:

The Blackberry 8350i looks like other Curve devices but is larger than the others. This mobile phone has a 2.4″ QVGA sharp display, below which is a trackball and navigation buttons: Talk, End, Menu Shortcut and Back. While the left side of the device has the convenience key (the Direct Connect key that helps in push-to-talk, made prominent by a yellow outline), mini USB port and 2.5mm headset jack, the right side houses the volume rocker and convenience key (or default camera button). The top of this device contains the mute button. At the back of the Blackberry 8350i is the 2.0 MP camera lens and LED flash. This device has smooth edges and a soft touch finish, fitting well into the hand.

Blackberry Protect Now Available as an Open Beta

Last July Blackberry released a new service as a closed Beta project. It was called Blackberry Protect and was introduced as a way to help Blackberry users deal with problems such as your phone being stolen or lost. Beta users have been offering suggestions and testing the service since July and now it is open to all Blackberry users but is still a Beta version so there could be some bugs and some features may need further testing. Nonetheless it is an exciting development for those of us who are security-minded and most Blackberry users are. Making the most secure mobile phone out there even more secure is quite a feat.

The talking point is whether the recent Microsoft-Nokia alliance is going to push up the sales of Nokia, bringing forth better products and improving customer satisfaction.
