A business website directly determines the success of the business. How the website looks gives an impression as to what kind of business you run. The approach taken in building a website is very important. Many businesses have failed because they simply made some mistakes when building the website. Some of the common mistakes web designers should avoid includes
Creating a site that sell the products or services of the company rather than the benefits
People go to sites to find solutions to their problem or to find something that can add value to their life. Many businesses overlook this factor when designing their website. Most of them will usually give information on the products and services that the business is offering. Though such information is necessary, it’s not enough. Consumers need convincing that the product or service will be of help. As such websites should not information on why the products or services were developed and the end results of using them. This will create a good relationship between the customers and the business since the customers will feel that the business understands their problems. It is also a good way of branding the product.
Focusing on the business owner instead of the visitors
Visitors on the site are not interested on the business owner but what the business can do for them. Visitors will disregard a site that does not put their concerns first. As a business the primary role in creating the site should be to pass on information that is helpful to the visitor. Thus the web designer should make the visitors his primary concern.
Confusing quality with complexity
Many times businesses tend to incorporate very complex designs in their website. By doing these visitors find it hard to locate or manipulate things on the site. As such the site will be termed user unfriendly and will receive fewer visitors. A website should be designed in a simple manner so that visitors can locate what they want quickly and easily. A business can ensure that the site is of good quality by presenting all the items in a logical manner. Information that visitors are most likely to be interested in should be placed where it can be easily seen.
Wrong color, music and flashing images
Some designers think that flashing images are actually interesting and have a positive effect on the site. A few people find them amusing but a vast majority considers them annoying. Music on auto play is not healthy too. Many people want to maintain privacy when browsing especially in public places. Thus by putting music that automatically plays when the page loads, may be a big turn off to many people. Choosing colors that make it hard to read text on the page is another mistake that should be avoided when designing the website. Different colors can be used but then they should be combined wisely. A wrong choice or a wrong combination of colors will make visitors lose confidence in the business.
